The Scenic Route - Highest Success Rate
The Lemosho Route is considered the most scenic path to Kilimanjaro's summit, approaching from the remote western side of the mountain. With an 85% success rate, it offers excellent acclimatization through its longer duration and gradual ascent profile.
Starting in pristine rainforest, the route traverses the stunning Shira Plateau before joining the Machame Route. The extra days allow your body to adjust properly to altitude, and the western approach means fewer crowds and more solitude. This is the route we recommend for those seeking the best combination of scenery, acclimatization, and summit success.
Karibu Tanzania, adventurer! Your epic Kilimanjaro journey starts the moment you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. We'll meet you with warm smiles and whisk you to your hotel in Moshi, where civilization's greatest hits await: hot water, soft beds, and food that doesn't come in a foil packet. After you've settled in, it's time for the trek briefing with your expert guide. This is where we go over the game plan, check your gear (yes, you really need all of it), and answer every question you've been Googling for months. Pro tip: tonight's dinner is your last chance to eat like a normal human, so go wild. Tomorrow, the Lemosho adventure begins!
Drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate on the western side of Kilimanjaro for registration. Continue by vehicle through the rainforest to the trailhead. Begin trekking through pristine forest with chances to spot wildlife including colobus monkeys and various bird species.
Leave the rainforest and emerge onto the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. The landscape opens dramatically with expansive views. Cross streams and moorland as you approach Shira 1 Camp with stunning views of Kibo Peak.
Gentle trek across the Shira Plateau toward the main peak. This gradual ascent aids acclimatization. Explore the plateau with its unique volcanic rock formations and alpine vegetation. Optional afternoon hike for additional acclimatization.
Critical acclimatization day. Ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600m, a volcanic rock formation where you stop for lunch. Then descend to Barranco Camp. This "climb high, sleep low" approach is key to successful acclimatization and significantly improves summit chances.
Begin with the exhilarating Barranco Wall climb - a 257m scramble up the rock face requiring hands and feet but no technical equipment. Traverse stunning ridges with spectacular views of the southern glaciers. Short day allows rest before summit push.
Ascend to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and lunar-like. Arrive early afternoon for rest, equipment preparation, and early dinner. Brief sleep before midnight summit departure.
Begin summit push around midnight under starlight. Climb steep scree slopes to Stella Point on the crater rim at sunrise. Continue along the crater rim past glaciers to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate at the summit before descending to Mweka Camp.
Final descent through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. The trail can be muddy and slippery after rain. Collect your summit certificate and celebrate your achievement with your team. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for celebration and rest.
Rise and shine, summit legend! You've conquered Kilimanjaro, earned your certificate, and have stories that'll last a lifetime. Today we'll transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport with plenty of time for your flight home. But here's the thing: you just spent over a week in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and now you're supposed to just... leave? Consider this: Tanzania's incredible wildlife is literally right here. Swap your hiking boots for safari binoculars and keep the adventure rolling. The Serengeti isn't going to explore itself!
